10 Minute Writing Exercises – Learn Something New Every Day!

I have ten minutes to try to explain where I where I think I am meant to take this little blog. The funny thing is, I just wasted 47 seconds thinking of and writing that much! Haha! Enough dilly-dallying – let’s get moving!

I have had a pretty cool life if I do say so myself! I have done things other women have not and maybe, wisely, would not have even considered doing. I have met people others overlook, chatted with people others don’t have time for, and gotten to be friends with people I never would have expected.

None of that is to say anything great about me. I have had many hardships and failings and flops! Most due to my own faults and insecurities.

But God has still chosen to Bless me with fascinating, intelligent, kind people in and on my paths! Each has taught me something. Each has held my hand in a special way. Each has changed my outlook, understanding, or trajectory.

Each has taught me something along the way.

I guess that is what I am beginning to think this ten minute writing exercise is meant to be –  a place to share ideas I’ve learned from others. In the book Atomic Habits, author James Clear states something to the effect of, “If you find any wisdom in what I share, assume it is the good of others who led me to include it in these pages. If you find anything incorrect, consider that fault my own.”

I have paraphrased this of course since looking it up would take more than 10 minutes, but you get the idea. Maybe I will share the exact quote on social media tomorrow. There’s an idea – and also a time-stealing distraction!

I remind myself of this last as my 10 minute alarm goes off!

I must honor the ten minute time if I am to keep my word about writing nightly. Writing too long will make me stop writing consistently as I search for the perfect word. This writing makes me squirm but also grow – even if that growth involves a lot of letting go and flying uncomfortably free. I will have to think this all out more in the days to come,.

In the meantime, here is basically what I am working on.

  • Who:  Single Mom Smiling to other struggling women!   🙂
  • What:  10 minute writing exercises posted five nights a week
  • Why:  Because there is not enough time to gather all the knowledge and experience in the world. We need each other. We need community!
  • Where:  the Single Mom Smiling blog (aka right here! 🙂  )
  • When: nightly Monday through Friday (hopefully!)
  • Focus:  Gathered Wisdom – from the Lord, Saints, Angels, Founding Fathers, my sons, who knows what or who else!

I will have to proofread this tomorrow. I am more than halfway cross-eyed from lack of sleep!

God Bless…
